formerly of a reputable fire nation family, lan left their childhood home at the age of fifteen after realising that firebending had, for some reason or other, not been passed down to them. under the tutelage of an unnamed white lotus member, they travelled the lands, honing skills that would allow them to hold their own against a bender. they swear their loyalty by the white lotus and the united nations, slowly working their way up in the ranks of the organisation. it is, admittedly, still somewhat of a work in progress.[break][break]

they try to see the best in people, likely sympathising with others more than they ought to, though they would never readily admit it. a bleeding heart in a position like theirs scarcely shines well on the organisation. after all, lan is a scout commander of the white lotus, with their expertise lying in methods of surveillance and threat assessment. if the situation calls for it, their repertoire expands to espionage and assassination. you wouldn't think it just be looking at them, though.[break][break]


an amicable if anxious individual, lan comes across as rather introverted and non-confrontational, preferring to keep to himself during his down-time. that isn't to say he is unsociable; he appreciates friends and friendly acquaintances, and is himself a good listening ear. he would much rather you think of him as a friend than enemy, anyways, and doesn't quite deal well with animosity on a personal basis. business matters are dealt with stoic professionalism, superiors acknowledged with respect, and peace-breakers handled strictly.[break][break]

those he calls friends can look forward to quiet offers of baked goods ( of surprisingly good quality ), hesitant offers of advice that follow along the lines of do-as-i-say-and-not-as-i-do, and free cuddles with the extremely soft snow leopard caribou that he calls luho. [break][break]

romance isn't off the table, but unlikely; lan doesn't consider it a priority right now, not when he really just needs to get his act together in general and start functioning better as a human being. he tends towards short-lived flings, though he tries his best not to leave anything on poor terms -- most remain friendly acquaintances, and he likes it that way.[break][break]

lan is quite easily found within republic city, patrolling the streets when the occasion calls for it or, on a good day, just enjoying a nice walk outside. on not-so-good days, quiet contemplation or anxious breakdowns are reserved for the closed doors of his office or apartment. sometimes his work calls him elsewhere: be it water tribe, fire nation, earth kingdom, or even the temples of the air nomads, he's probably been there. it's his job to know things, after all.
